Why implement IEDMS?

The IEDMS will focus on the following areas


The Purpose of Integrated Electronic Document Management System (IEDMS)

The objective of the IEDMS is to implement an effective, real time, online solution that will cater for automated document management processes from capture (scanning and indexing) to business transaction completion (workflow) resulting in the overall improvement of business process efficiency.

Why implement IEDMS?

  •  To digitise all departmental documents excluded in EDMS Phase 1
  • Reduce Manual, Paper-driven Environment
  • Improve service delivery to clients
  • Eradicate storage problems

IEDMS will focus on the following areas

  • Scanning of 500 million cases of which of 40.5 million records related to Births, Marriages, Deaths and Amendments
  • Scanning of all Departmental Records (Business and Support Functions)
  • Rolling out EDMS Functionality to Customer facing offices
  • Infrastructure and storage upgrade to cater for 500 million cases

The tender for the project was published on the 15th December 2006. It has since been evaluated and awaiting the award of the successful bidder.
