Objectives and benefits to the society

DHA currently has a wide variety of software and hardware. In order for DHA to achieve its strategic imperative, service delivery improvement, one of the key projects to embark on is office connectivity, which seeks to address connectivity and standardize on infrastructure. This will increase end-user productivity, eases support and maintenance, enhances reliability, improves security controls and reduces cost of ownership.

The Department is in the process of implementing a new network infrastructure in partnership with the Department of Foreign Affairs. This exercise will ensure among other benefits, that the entire DHA foreign network will integrate with local network thus making it easy to be managed, monitored and supported through a single point of access ie. network operating center. There is a however major challenge facing the border posts. While on the one hand it is necessary to put in place a satellite infrastructure to ensure connectivity, it is equally important to have the border post network incorporated onto the overall departmental network. This project will also help in integrating these border posts into DHA one network.

This then necessitate that when DHA think of putting VOIP infrastructure in this offices it enter into a partnership with DFA. The long term plan in to also incorporate all government departments that have offices outside the Republic of South Africa.
